CARING FOR A CHILD WITH ECZEMA PART 2

Hey Mamas and Dadas, if you are just catching up with this blog about eczema you can catch up on the previous blog here.

Remember when I told you about Naomi's scalp being flakey? I was told that it was craddle cap by the pediatrician and that I should wash her hair and it will dissappear. However, it wasn't craddle cap as there were no other symptoms oter from her scalp. When I got to Jamaica the pediatrician told me that it was eczema on the scalp and that he recommends washing three time a week to get it out. The pictures below depicts before the eczema flare up that caused her hair lost.

Naomi's hair lost began around the same time she started having skin patches all over her body. She started catching her scalp and it became cakey whenever I washed her hair. I tried to comb it out when I wash but her hair would come right out with her scalp. At this point the sides of her hair started to disappear. I had a theory that she was pulling out her hair when she scratched it but that wasn't the case even though I saw strands of hair in her hands. I also was asked if she was sleeping on her sides. Looking back I actually find this funny as well, I was told that her head was growing so her hair was spreading out.

However, I was still in denial that my baby's hair was falling out because of the eczema. By the time I got to Jamaica it was getting worst and more hair kept disappearing. I was so concerned about this eczema situation so I had to ask about it when we got to the pediatrician. Therefore, I got the solution I needed by washing her hair three times a week without combing her flakey scalp ehile washing.

Once I started to washed her hair regularly, I started seeing results. All the flakes in her hair disappeared and her hair started to grow. I ventured into a new creator's content on tiktok and now IGTV where I make short videos of combing her hair. My intention on these contents is to bring insights on black kids hairstyles. My contents shows easy ways to comb your child's hair even if you are a rookie parent at combing hair.

Below are some tips on growing your baby's hair.

  1. The comb you comb your child's hair its the more it will grow.

  2. Be sure to avoid combing your child hair tight.

  3. Always moisturize and hydratrate your child's hair(water and moisturizer of your choice).

  4. Wash your child's hair at least two times a week.
