CO-SLEEP OR INDEPENDENT SLEEP

Hey Mamas and Dadas, I have been longing to post this for a while but I have been so busy. I recently sent out a poll on my Instagram and tiktok where I asked the question if you guys co-sleep or independently sleep with your babies. Most parents responded that they had or is co-sleeping with their babies.

When Naomi was a newborn I was told that it is illegal to co-sleep with a newborn. Therefore, I had her in a basinet for about 4 weeks until I started getting tired for getting up to feed and putting her back in the basinet changing her diaper and then putting her back. I thought it was much of an hassle (something I won't apologize for). Let's face it having a newborn can be very hectic especially if you are a single parent and that, I can only imagine. I have left from independent sleep to co-sleep and now I'm back at independently sleeping.

I have been *trying* to transition Naomi back to sleeping in her crib throughout the whole nights but there is still a struggle when she gets up to feed I don't normally her back which is defeating the whole purpose of independent sleeping. However, as you guys know Naomi is allergic to milk products hence I only give her breast milk. These are reason why, its easy for my to co-sleep in the night with her.

  1. I do not need to get up to make formula

  2. She sleeps throughout the night better

  3. I can get a good night rest

  4. It build a closer bond

  5. It keeps her warm

  6. Feels protected

Its hard to give up those this listed however, I believe independent sleeping is also important as it relates to getting your own space. Especially, when you have a partner. You may want to cuddle at night but baby is blocking that comfort. Also, if you want to leave the baby with family overnight it can bring stress to the baby who is not used to sleeping independently.

I have been putting her in her crib during the day time to take her naps, that way she would get use to the feeling of her crib bed. While at night I try to put her in the crib the moment she falls asleep. Naomi is not a pacifier kind of baby neither does she finds comfort with a blanket. However, I started to give her a bear to sleep with which actually makes her sleep longer in the crib. However, she normally wakes up in the middle of the night to get feed. This normally depends on what time she falls asleep (scheduled bedtime 9:30). Most times she would climb out the crib and into our bed to get fed. I am so sleepy I just let her sleep the rest of the night/morning in our bed and that is what I am working on now to change.

*I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED*

UNTIL THE NEXT POST, SEE YAH!!
