This is a depression suffered by a mother following childbirth, typically arising from the combination of hormonal changes, psychological adjustment to motherhood, and fatigue; postnatal depression.

I personally think that this is not a topic spent on especially in my country Jamaica. We tend to focus on the hormonal or emotional aspect of it but what about the mental and physical changes that takes place after having a child.

What we think postpartum is:

  • Harming the child

  • Harming yourselves

  • Not showing the child love and care

  • Crying

  • Having issues sleeping

  • Mood swings

What postpartum really is:

  • Uncomfortable with your new body.

  • Unable to adjust to your new life.

  • Accepting the fact that you will be responsible for someone until they are adults.

  • Unable to get a job post pregnancy.

Ways to get through Postpartum Depression

  1. Accept and Love you new body

  2. Exercise

  3. Diet and eat healthy

  4. Drink more water

  5. Find a hobby

  6. Start a business

  7. Treat yourself (Self-care)

  8. Go out (have fun)
